“Think: beach/poolside, lazy slip-on, summer breeze, and sipping on a Pina colada. -the vibe of the shoe
Overview:
Create the first men’s offering to the sustainable beach line. Design an eco-friendly casual men’s slip-on for S/s 2023. Deliverables include one construction tech submission w/ two upper options, and four colorways. Parameters include injected soybean compound for bottom and eco-conscious eco-certified cotton canvas upper material. Carryover beach design assets to stay inline with current product line offerings.
My Role:
Responsible for market research, sustainable material study, ideation of initial concept sketches, final tech pack submissions. Creating merchandising maps consisting of color and material selections to fit inline with seasonal ‘23 color palette.
Brief: Design a Men’s casual slip-on for the sustainable Beach Line for S/S ‘21.
Parameters: Incorporate sustainable ethos to upper using eco-certified cotton canvas and soybean compound for bottom.
Persona: Confident, relaxed Vionic Man, enjoys the summer breeze oceanside, sipping on Pina coladas, and classic cars.
Inspiration: Inline with the relaxed vibe of the casual slip-on the bottom tread design is inspired by the Lazy River. Dual-purpose channels created by the grooves are strategically placed for flex and also act as functional water/debris outlets.
Upper Concept 1: The Seaview is a casual slip-on featuring a stone-washed, eco-certified cotton canvas with internal gore, added heel cushion for comfort, and detailed with a recycled Beach icon grommet.
Colorways: S/S ‘21 Colorways include neutral White, Black and Light Grey, and seasonal pops of Vallarta Blue and Olive Night.
Upper Concept 2: The Skipper is a follow-up to the casual slip-on that features eco-certified cotton canvas with headset bungee lacing, internal gore, and detailed with recycled eyelets for color pops.
Colorways: S/S ‘21 Colorways for trip 2 include neutral White, Black and Charcoal Gray; and seasonal pops of Toffee, Army Green and Navy.
